Lichting 2011 is a project of Amsterdam International Fashion Week, HTNK Fashion Recruitment & Consultancy and Premsela - the Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion in collaboration with G-Star Raw, and the Utrecht School of the Arts, AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts Arnhem, the Royal Academy of Art, Zuyd University, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Willem de Kooning Academy.
The designers who show at Lichting 2011 are chosen by senior lecturers at their respective academies:
AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute, Amsterdam
Participants 2011: Bram van Diepen and Amber Sophie Smidt
Bram and Amber created an emotion that fashion should express at this moment in time; it's not about a target group or wearability, it's about feeling, about intimacy, about honesty, about personality, about sexuality, about using clothing and the body to express your deepest emotions and most sincere view on creation.
About Lichting
“The Lichting platform shows that young Dutch fashion designers have international ambitions and capabilities. They’re able to create collections based on skills and emotions.”

About Lichting
“Lichting offers an excellent platform for young recently graduated fashion designers to show their collections to a broader public and -in spite of the element of a contest- an opportunity for Dutch fashion academies to profile themselves.”

Participants 2011: Pablo Londono Sarria and Amos Tranque
With garments made of materials, which are not usually associated with luxury and comfort, Pablo puts men’s fashion in a new context. By using traditional techniques and unexpected combinations he managed to create a collection, which besides being new, modern and familiar, also reflects his take on haute couture for men.
Researching magnetic forces and it’s influence on the human body - not only scientific but also in shape, colour and texture- Amos transformed traditional menswear with it’s classic silhouettes and proportions into a fresh and personal collection, which is full of visual dynamism and progressive solutions.
About Lichting
“Lichting functions as an important stepping stone for graduates into the thrilling world of fashion. The international and professional character of this venue serves not only the graduates and their academies but also the fashion professionals by showing them what’s happening next.”

Royal Academy of Art, The Hague
Participants 2011: Lotte Mostert and Nicolaas Hein
Lotte Mostert and Nicolaas Hein are representative for the signature of the Textile & Fashion department of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK). Like all students in our department they are stimulated to aspire a high international level, creating an authentic own language, form and signature. What makes our department ‘different’ is that students are initiated into both, the fashion language of form and textile techniques, so that traditional and tactile elements are strongly present in the work of all our students. Lotte Mostert and Nicolaas Hein present all these qualities.
About Lichting
“Each fashion academy in the Netherlands works on its own profile. Lichting provides a platform for all the academies to present it. The diversity creates an interesting fashion landscape – an image that every academy can be proud of. An image that we would also like to present internationally.”

Utrecht School of the Arts, Utrecht
Participants 2011: Natalie de Koning and Menno Voortman
We chose a men’s and a women’s collection to show the diversity of our department.
The search for a new definition of mens clothing can easily result in a gayisch, over the top image.
Menno Voortman shows that it doesn’t need to be like that. He brings severe silhouettes, sober, wearable yet androgyn.
Natalie de Koning’s definition of new femininity is a reference to the elegance of Victorian, the Interbellum and Art Deco periods. Looking somewhat used, though beautiful in colouring and details, silks are combined with woollens and sharp forms, decorated with glass triangles. A substantial part of the collection is produced in an environment conscious manner.

Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam
Participants 2011: Albert Jan Metselaar and Laura de Wit.
This year, we challenged our graduates to create new volumes by adjusting and mixing existing patterns and shapes; rebellion based on concept and study. Where Albert Jan shows that the ‘contemporary rebel’ can be a ‘rebel’ in subtleties, his story is in the details that underline his conceptual freedom. He is silent but outspoken in his vision on menswear.
Laura, on the other hand, uses our traditional folklore heritage as an inspiration for her intelligent but strong collection that underlines the strength of Dutch design. It’s clean and sober and it leaves you with something to think about.
Both designers represent the pragmatic but poetic Rotterdam approach.

Participants 2011: Jenny Kloszynski and Anne-Kathrin Bannier
Jenny Kloszynski has again developed a strong collection concept using an analytical approach. Jenny executed her constricted-cage concept to the finest details in decorating and tailoring. With her determination, analytical skills and talent, we think Jenny will have the fashion industry a lot to offer!
Anne-Kathrin Bannier combines her talent for story telling and fantasy with a fascination for balancing art and wearability. Her designs are often inspired on stories of comic-book-like characters instead of high fashion. Her great sense for materials, and construction prove a passion for ready-to-wear.
About Lichting

About Lichting
The concept of ‘Lichting’ is simple: the best academy graduates of one year in 1 central catwalk show. In the audience are the 700 most important people for the next step in their careers: fashion journalists and influential stylists, ready to spot the next big thing; CEO’s and design managers on the look-out for talent; and the all-important players-behind-the-scenes, all eager to see what the nation’s academies have brought forth this year.
