The hobby of collecting, which caused many obstacles in our family’s daily life, took on a new meaning after my father’s passing in 2023. His collection turned out to be a deep personal archive, built around everything that reminded him of his youth,
his passion for cars, and rare automobilia.
From Lamborghini bumpers used as a plant pots, BMW dealership illuminating signs and working bumper cars. everyone described it as an overwhelming collection, with new impressions everywhere you looked.
In time, I began to get to know my father in a different way, and countless memories
of him popping up.
Among these memories were the family holidays to Italy in his self- restored BMW 2002, painted in colour code 201 – condor yellow as well as the realization that, me as a rebellious teenager was unaware and dismissive of the shared passion of collecting.
Because that crazy Henkie, wasn’t that crazy after all…
The collection describes itself the way my father’s average shopping list would:
– Putty
– Paint
– Fluorescent tubes
From a young age, I have been a perfectionist at heart, fascinated by the smallest details and driven by passion.
Combined with my knowledge of leather and leather-finishing techniques, I aim to create work that resonates and makes personal stories tangible.
The process began by sorting through my father’s collection.
Since only fragments and photos remained, I worked with collage techniques, experimenting with shapes and placement.
I preserved the essence of the objects so their emotion wouldn’t fade.
This approach forced me to work more intuitively and brought unexpected elements, details and techniques into the design.
