When and why did you decide to study Fashion?

After graduating from secondary school, I knew I wanted to do something with design. As long as I remember I shape whatever surrounds me, into a better, inspiring environment. I just don’t like it to be ‘forced’ to looking at things which do not esthetically appeal to me, or interest me. I was actually hesitating to study either architecture or fashion. After I heard about the bachelor course at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) I was determent to apply.

Was it always your dream to start your own label?

When I started to study fashion, I think yes, but during my studies I thought it would also be really great to work for fashion houses or designers I really admire. After my internship in Antwerp I actually changed my point of view again. From that moment on my future goal was really clear to me: I wanted to start my own label.

Where there certain skills or knowledge you felt you lacked after graduating and how have you tackled this?

After gratuading for my masters degree in fashion design in 2010 at the Fashion Institute Arnhem (FIA), I applied right away for an internship at Viktor&Rolf. I wanted to see how they run their fashion house with their high level of prêt a porter collections with an international focus, and all that directed from Amsterdam. I wanted to see what their way of working was design wise, but most of all business wise.

What is your ambition for the years to come?

My ambition for the future is to shape my label to an Amsterdam based and established fashion label with international allure, which tells you a story every season by the collections.
